About me
Steve has been involved in outdoor pursuits from an early age, initially with the Scout Association during which time he took part in two national expeditions, backpacking along the Sierra Nevada in California and a year later4 weeks working in Kenya with UNICEF and climbing on Mount Kenya. He continued to develop his mountaineering skills in the UK and the Alps whilst also competing in orienteering, mountain marathons and became a volunteer instructor at LOPC outdoor pursuits centre in the Lake District. His passion for working with young people led him to go on and complete a Bed (Hons) degree in Secondary Education. Over 22 years in education he has been a head of department and also set up the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, initially with 12 pupils building the numbers up to over 120 participants at Bronze and Silver level. During this time he also ran and co-ordinated the expedition section of the award including the development and training of 20 staff/volunteers.
He spends most of his spare time mountaineering, bikepacking, road cycling and is also a keen fell runner and completed the Bob Graham Round in 1986.
He forms part of our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition delivery team.

Steve is a member of the BMC and British Orienteering (BO), Iol Institute for Outdoor Learning.
