The Association of Mountaineering Instructors and Mountain Training England Outdoor activities and courses

Our aim with this course is to introduce the you to the basic techniques required for off-road mountain biking. A day spent on this course  will  equip you with the basic skills necessary to ride trails safely and confidently.

This course assumes that the rider has no or limited off road riding experience, however you MUST be able to ride a bike. Throughout this course, you will tutored by our first-class mountain bike tutors, developing your skills and sharing your experiences alongside other riders at a similar level of experience to you. A great off-road riding day using excellent mountain bike riding venues.

Personal fitness level required.

Mountain biking off-road is by its very nature a more demanding form than riding along a canal or road. You will need a basic level of personal fitness. This may be gained by a few aerobic work-outs before the course. Please call if you are unsure about the fitness level required.

This said, by their nature, the courses are skill-instruction focussed. Techniques are demonstrated and explained in detail; all participants will then be encouraged to attempt and re-attempt the techniques to ensure that you develop your skills.

The day will look at the tourniquets below in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

  • Mountain bike preparation (safety checks)
  • Your riding position
  • Correct use of gears
  • Braking (efficiently and safely)
  • Cornering techniques
  • Climbing techniques
