All our "Outdoor Adventure Education Day" activities can be combined to create a residential programme of activities from a simple over night stay under the stars (Bivi), to 5 days in a posh hotel! Accommodation options are:

  • camping barns which offer simple basic accommodation
  • camping, static or mobile (walking, cycling, canoeing)
  • bunkhouses
  • climbing club huts, some of which have an appealing remoteness about them
  • youth hostel
  • scout camps at which a number have bunkhouse units
  • residential centres
  • hotels

Courses can be catered for, or self catering the choice is yours!

Sample Residential courses

An Overnight Experience - A simple and short residential course, which can either be tent based or indoor accommodation. Arrive lunch time on day one and depart lunch time on day two. Activities available are Orienteering, Team / Problem Solving Exercises, Mountain Biking, Archery and Environmental projects. Other activities are available at off site venues if required.

Availability: weekday or weekends.

2 day Experience - A residential course which can be delivered at weekends or during the week if preferred. Venues are available throughout North West England (Bolton, Bury, Blackburn, Darwen, Great Harwood, Heywood, Oldham, Rochdale, Preston, Longridge, Horwich, Chorley, Stockport, Marple, Wigan, Blackpool, Lancaster, Windermere, Warrington, Todmorden. Hudderfield, Hebden Bridge, Burnley, Clitheroe, Rawtenstall, Greenfields, Glenridding, Ingleton, Settle, Ambleside, Kendal, Silverdale, Halton, Horton in Ribblesdale, Ullswater, Anglesey and more. Accommodation can be from very simple camping barns through to hotel style. We can offer catered or self catered options - the choice is yours!

Expeditions - Expeditions can be arrange which involve walking, mountain biking or canoeing. The duration of the expodition is to your requirements from one night onwards.

Training for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award

As an Approved Activity Provider (AAP) we can support your Duke of Edinburgh's Award training in the following ways.

Training for the Expedition

Training follows the requirements of the Award and is pitched at the level of each group; Bronze full training, Silver refresher and skills

developments, Gold refresher and further developments. 

Training courses can be arranged to cover the following skills:-

Navigation

Training includes the use of map and compass, timing, pacing, special skills and much more. The training will cover the basic skills required to get participants navigating to the skill level required for the level of award undertaking.

All participants will be accredited under the BSOA Explorer Challenge Award scheme Assessments are available under the National Navigation Award Scheme. Bronze, Silver or Gold certificates can be awarded.

Campcraft

Training includes site selection, use of tents, sleeping bags, stoves - different types ease of use, etc., nutrition and types of meals which may be easily cooked, rucksacks, clothing, environmental considerations and much more.

Walking

How to operate safely as a group, decision making, practical map reading, hazards, personal fitness.

Mountain Biking

Training includes the safe cycle, on and off-road skills, cycling with panniers, bike maintenance and much more.

First Aid

16hr Outdoor First Aid courses include; Vital signs, emergency action, levels of consciousness, bleeding, cpr, and much more.

The Basic (one day) First Aid course is valid for 3 years (this course also allows the participant to be nominated as the Appointed Person within the

workplace).

The Emergency (two day) First Aid course is valid for 3 years (this course is recognised as sufficient by National Governing Bodies such as RYA, MLT,
