Calder – Altham to Martholme

Novice grade Open Canoe / Kayak

Starting at Altham Bridge the river runs through open farm land. Under normal water levels, the river is mainly flat water with a good current to take you down. There are, every now and then, small bumpy bits that will add a little excitement to your journey. Mid-way there is a small weir to shoot but this presents no problems under normal water levels. This journey is about three and half hours duration on the water and sorting equipment. The distance paddled is about 4.5km.  

Calder –  Martholme to Whalley 

Intermediate grade Open Canoe  / Kayak

Starting at the Martholme Viaduct the river has several short sections of rapids which depending on water level can offer good sport. This section of the river runs through pleasant landscapes. This journey is about three and half hours duration on the water and sorting equipment. The distance paddled is about 4km
